For the past 200 years, is held annually in Munich at the Theresienwiese Oktoberfest venue. With more than 6 million visitors, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in the world. For the Oktoberfest, the Munich breweries brew a special beer (Oktoberfest Märzen) with more original wort and thus with a higher alcohol content (around 6-7%).   The now well-known large Oktoberfest in Munich can now look back on a 200-year history. It was first held on October 17, 1810. On the occasion of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on October 12, 1810 held the banker and Major Andreas Michael Dall'Armi on a meadow outside the city walls of Munich a great horse race. Since the terrain is Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest comes dialectal name for the Oktoberfest.  

Originally, the purpose of this festival is to use up the remains of yet incorporated in March beer under a big feast before the start of each new brewing season. For this reason, there was far into the 20th century in many places in Bavaria Oktoberfest, but of which none ever reached the size of the Munich Oktoberfest.
